A goal six minutes from time earned Northampton Town a 2-1 victory over Posh at Sixfields.
Peterborough United slipped to a 2-1 defeat at local rivals Northampton Town on Monday night as a goal six minutes from time from Cameron McGeehan earned the Cobblers all three points on a wet and windy night in Northamptonshire.
Darren Ferguson's men played the better football for long spells in the game and carved out some presentable opportunities but were ultimately undone by two defensive mistakes, the first from a corner kick and the second failing to clear a delivery into the box.
Posh made a bright start with Archie Collins forcing Tzanev into a smart stop following a powerful drive from 25-yards while at the other end, Nick Bilokapic beat away a swerving shot from McGeehan.
On 28 minutes, the home side opened the scoring as a corner was bundled home by MCGEEHAN at the far post after wriggling clear of his marker.
On 38 minutes, Posh levelled the scores as MOTHERSILLE tapped home from close-range after a deflected cross from James Dornelly following excellent approach play.
Cian Hayes saw a shot blocked on 57 minutes before Mothersille's effort was parried to safety by Tzanev. Posh had a golden chance to get their noses in front on 64 minutes as Mothersille and Randall combined to set up Jones who somehow skied his effort from close-range.
Randall saw two efforts blocked and Jones put a cross just ahead of Mothersille as Posh pressed but on 83 minutes, the Cobblers nudged in front as MCGEEHAN fired home after poor defending.
