Posh players celebrate scoring against Blackpool

Joel Randall bagged a brace as Posh produced a five-star showing against Blackpool at the Weston Homes Stadium.

The mood in football can swing from low to high quite quickly and there was further evidence of it at the Weston Homes Stadium as Peterborough United bounced back from Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Wycombe Wanderers to beat Blackpool 5-1 in a game that demonstrated the quality that Darren Ferguson has at the top end of the pitch.

Posh started the contest in fine fettle with the pace of Jones a constant threat down the left, he left the full-back for dead on six minutes only to see his cross go behind Joel Randall.

Malik Mothersille tested Tyrer with a curling effort moments later before Posh opened the scoring with the former Chelsea man MOTHERSILLE finishing a fine move involving Kwame Poku and Randall.

Ballard should have levelled on 13 minutes but fired wide and three minutes later, Posh were 2-0 to the good and it was a superb counter-attack, which started with an intelligent bowl out from Nicholas Bilokapic to Jones, he raced clear down the left, squared for Mothersille, who pushed it on to RANDALL who made no mistake via a deflection.

On 26 minutes, the visitors pulled a goal back as Kyle JOSEPH tapped home into an empty net after good work from Casey.

Posh didn't let that setback hurt them because moments later it was 3-1 as Mothersille picked out POKU and he shifted the ball onto his right-foot and rifled a shot past Tyrer.

A Randall corner caused panic on 49 minutes without a finish while Jack Sparkes saw penalty appeals waved away after he appeared to be tripped in the box.

On 70 minutes, moments after Oscar Wallin had produced a fine tackle at the other end, Posh made it 4-1 as JONES tapped home from close-range after more excellent work from Poku.

It was 5-1 two minutes later as substitute Ihionvien brought Poku into play and he threaded a pass through to RANDALL, who dinked his shot over the keeper and into the back of the net.

Bilokapic beat away a shot from Apter and Abraham Odoh squandered a fine headed chance to make it six as the chances continued to come with Donay O'Brien-Brady denied by Tyrer and Fletcher firing wide for the Tangerines.
