Posh Under 21s

Posh Under 21s made it three wins on the spin on Tuesday afternoon as they beat unbeaten table toppers Sheffield United 2-1 thanks to a late Andre Changunda effort.

Peterborough United Under 21s continued their impressive run on Tuesday beating top of the league Sheffield United, thanks to goals from Cian Hayes and Andre Changunda with the latter's effort coming just two minutes from the conclusion of a competitive encounter.

Posh started the game brightly and went close inside the opening three minutes with Harley Mills seeing an effort deflected wide of the target.

Just after the quarter hour mark, Posh troubled the Blades again as Chris Conn-Clarke went close with a long-range effort that was tipped over the crossbar by the goalkeeper.

Posh found the breakthrough and it was a fine effort from Cian HAYES  who found the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area to make it two goals in two games for the Under 21s.

The lead didn’t last to the interval as the visitors struck back in first half stoppage time with HAMPSON finishing from close-range after a bit of pinball in the Posh defence.

Posh made two changes at the break with Justin Osagie and Changunda introduced into the action, however it was the away side who started the half the brighter forcing Will Blackmore into a number of big saves.

Blackmore's saves proved crucial as two minutes from time, CHANGUNDA fired home from close-range to secure a notable success for Posh.  In stoppage time, excellent defending from Harley Mills stopped an almost certain equaliser and this was enough for Posh to hold onto a brilliant win, handing Sheffield United their first defeat of the season.

Lead Professional Development Coach Ryan Semple said: “Overall it was a really good performance, especially against a team in Sheffield United who hadn’t lost a game before today, that is a clear indicator that the result was a good one. We moved the ball well, coped with some real pressure, but we were calm enough and precise enough to play through that.”

Posh Under 21s are back in action next Tuesday as they travel to West London to face Brentford at Wheatsheaf Park.

Posh: Blackmore, Katongo (sub Osagie 46min), Mills, O’Brien Brady, Rose, Nevett, Hayes, Young (sub Campbell 79min),, Kamara, Conn-Clarke, Davies (sub  Changunda 46min). Unused subs: Smith, Sumnall, Osagie.
