A look ahead to the FA Women’s National League fixture against The Imps’ at the Kal Stadium on Sunday afternoon (2pm).

Peterborough United Women are in action for their final match in 2024 as they travel to the Kal Stadium to face Lincoln City Women in their latest FAWNL Division One Midlands fixture.

Jake Poole’s side returned to winning games at the weekend courtesy of a stoppage time free-kick from Meg Lawlor against Worcester City. They now sit in second place with 28 points, two points off top spot, with the potential to be top at Christmas providing results go their way.

Lincoln City are currently bottom of the table having lost their opening 12 matches of the season. Last weekend, they were beaten 9-0 by Loughborough Lightning.

Team News

Jake Poole spoke to Posh+ ahead of the game, and confirmed that Marthina Aguirre is available following her debut against Rugby Borough at the end of November. Lauren Wilshaw should also make a return to action following a spell on the sidelines with injury.

From The Gaffer

“We had to grind out the win last weekend, Worcester were really well organised and changed the way they played previously which made things difficult. We weren’t at our best, but we created some good moments and eventually got the goal.”

“Lincoln have had a tough start to the season. I thought we were really good against Lincoln earlier in the season, especially in the second half. I thought we were ruthless and that’s something we’ll want to replicate again. Similar to Worcester, I think they’ll enter the game with a different game plan and they’ll have learned from the first game as well so our task will be to solve that new problem and try to be as clinical as we were in the reverse game.”

One To Watch

Lincoln City have netted six competitive goals this season, with Becky Kendell netting three of those.

Last Time Out

The sides last met in the second weekend of the season at the Abbey Lawn with Posh securing an 8-0 victory. Katie Middleton netted a hat-trick whilst Niamh Connor scored twice with further strikes from Kier Perkins, Lauren Wilshaw and Frankie Pim.

Tickets can be purchased at £5 for adults and £2 for concessions with Under 16s gaining free admission.

The Posh Women hit double figures as they ended 2024 with a fine win on the road.

Jake Poole’s side reached double figures in their final FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands match of 2024 as they ran out 10-1 winners against Lincoln City at the Kal Stadium on Sunday afternoon; with Kayleigh Hines, Hayley James and Marthina Aguirre all netting their first goals for the club.

It was a perfect start for Posh as Meg Lawlor’s corner was headed in by JAMES for her first goal for the club inside five minutes. The hosts defence continued to battle under pressure with Poppie Brown and Katie Middleton forcing Jasmine Ottewell into action. Posh had the ball in the back of the net on the half hour mark but the linesman flagged for offside.

Posh eventually doubled their lead with Niamh CONNOR guiding her header into the top left corner from another corner routine. It wasn’t long before Posh were celebrating a third as a minute later, Katie MIDDLETON got her name on the scoresheet with an unorthodox finish from close range.

Posh continued to create chances in the second half and increased their lead less than five minutes after the restart as Tara KIRK was found in the box before curling an effort into the bottom right corner.

Poole called for changes on the hour mark with Lauren Wilshaw, Aguirre, Bennett and Emily Meli replacing Lawlor, Brown, Middleton and Perkins. Two of those substitutes combined minutes later as Wilshaw squared the ball to AGUIRRE who calmly slotted into the back of the net to unlock her account for the club.

Minutes later, Posh added a sixth as HINES struck from the edge of the box into the top left corner, marking her first goal for the club in style. With a quarter of an hour remaining on the clock, Posh continued their ruthlessness in front of goal as a cross caused havoc for the Imps’ defence before eventually being headed in by Emily SHARPE from close range.
Renai BENNETT netted past Ottewell for an eighth for Posh as the goals continued to flow. The ball found its way to Evie DRISCOLL-KING minutes later who scored from an acute angle. Lincoln added a consolation goal in injury time before Posh finished the scoring with BENNETT grabbing her second of the game with a powerful effort.

Posh: Corry, Driscoll-King, Connor, Sharpe, James, Hines, Lawlor (sub Aguirre 60min), Brown (sub Bennett 60min), Middleton (sub Wilshaw 60min), Kirk, Perkins (sub Meli 60min).
