Ricky-Jade Jones climbed off the substitutes bench to fire Posh to the second round of the Emirates FA Cup.
Manager Darren Ferguson spoke after the game about his belief his side can outscore the opposition and they may have too after more defensive lapses made things a little more difficult than they needed to be in Wales, but ultinmately it is about getting into the hat for the next round and Peterborough United did just that.
It was an incredibly difficult start for Darren Ferguson’s men as they found themselves 2-0 inside the opening 10 minutes of the contest. First a foul by Emmanuel Fernandez on the edge of the penalty area was punished by a fine free-kick by Anthony GLENNON who found the bottom corner with his left-footed set-piece.
The lead was doubled on nine minutes as Kai WHITMORE took advantage of a slip from Fernandez to fire past Nick Bilokapic. Ryan De Havilland saw a fierce drive pushed around the post by Townsend on 18 minutes before Posh carved out a more clear opportunity as Jack Sparkes and Odoh created a chance for Malik Mothersille, but he side-footed wide.
On the half-hour mark, Posh reduced the arrears as Poku did well to beat his man down the right and cross for ODOH who tapped home from close-range for his first goal for the club. Less than 60 seconds later, Posh struck the post as Poku danced into the box, Townsend doing well to tip his shot onto the woodwork.
Mothersille saw a low effort claimed by the keeper on 41 minutes after good work from George Nevett before a moment of controversy as a Sparkes delivery ended up in the back of the net, but the officials decided the ball had gone through a hole in the netting and disallowed the effort.
Three minutes into stoppage time, Baker-Richardson drove into the box but fired wide with his left-foot before the referee brought an end to the first 45 minutes.
The home side had the ball in the net two minutes into the second half, but the referee spotted an obvious handball and it was chalked off.
Poku fired over on the hour mark before Posh drew themselves level as RANDALL fired into the roof of the net with his left-foot after excellent movement.
Fernandez missed a header at the near post after good work from Archie Collins and Dornelly headed straight at the keeper.
With extra-time looming, substitute JONES fired Posh in front, collecting a shot from O'Brien-Brady and rifling a right-foot shot in off the inside of the post from close-range.
Deep into stoppage time, JONES added a second for his collection, and this was all his own work, collecting a Sparkes throw-in, turning his man, driving into the box before firing through the legs of the keeper.
