Posh Under 18s were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday evening having been punished by a clinical Northampton side.
Peterborough United Under 18s were beaten 2-1 by local rivals Northampton Town in front of a crowd of over 550 at the Weston Homes Stadium on Wednesday night. The visitors raced into a quick lead and doubled their advantage inside 21 minutes.
Posh fired back shortly after half-time but a spirited second half performance wasn’t enough as Northampton left with a place in the next round of the cup secured.
The visitors were quick out the blocks and were helped with significant fortune to give them an early lead as Josh Rayfield's strike cannoned off the post and off the back of Ben Westcott for an unfortunate an own goal.
Northampton doubled their lead after 21 minutes as Neo DOBSON converted from inside the penalty area after a neat cut-back. The visitors saw a number of chances to extend their lead squandered with Joziah Barnett heading wide from close range on the half hour mark among the opportunities.
Posh went into the break needing a response and got an immediate one as on 46 minutes, Patryk SYKUT fired low past Smith in the Northampton goal. As the second half went on, Posh worked hard to find an equaliser however their efforts were in vain as Northampton held on to progress into the second round.
On Saturday, Posh Under 18s are back in action as they host Sheffield United at the idverde Training Ground (11am).
