Great Britt Helps Posh Earn Victory
Britt Assombalonga scored for the third league game in a row as Peterborough United recorded a rather scratchy 2-1 win over Oldham Athletic at London Road.Oldham made a bright start to the game in their pink away strip and Bobby Olejnik was forced into the first save of the game, tipping a powerful header from Rooney over the crossbar.
On 18 minutes, Alcock was cautioned for his third discretion of the afternoon, bringing down Montano by the touchline.
Baxter fired over from a dead ball situation on 27 minutes as Posh continued to struggle to create anything in front of goal.
The deadlock was broken on 33 minutes and it came from absolutely nothing. Britt ASSOMBALONGA spun his man and unleashed a superb 30-yard effort into the bottom corner, leaving Oxley with no chance.
McCann saw a long-range effort deflected over the top on the stroke of half-time. Dayton fired over moments after the re-start for the Latics as Lee Johnson's men attempted to get back into this Skybet League One encounter.
Assombalonga fired straight at Oxley after a clever lay-off from Barnett on 49 minutes. Posh made a double change on 54 minutes with Jack Payne and Mark Little introduced into the fray.
McCann curled a free-kick wide of the near post after a foul on Rowe, but Posh were still struggling to assert themselves despite the 1-0 score-line.
On 79 minutes, Tomlin burst past two defenders, but his right-footed shot went inches past the post. Barnett saw a powerful header from a Ntlhe long throw tipped over the bar before Rowe headed a Tomlin corner into the side-netting.
On 84 minutes, Posh made it 2-0 as Assombalonga was felled in the box by Oxley and TOMLIN stepped up to coolly send the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot.
In stoppage time, Oldham reduced the arrears as substitute MACDONALD nodded home from a few yards after an excellent cross from the right.
With the last kick of the game, Oldham missed from a yard, somehow as Posh hung on for three points.
