Britt Bags Last Gasp Equaliser
Peterborough United scored a last minute equaliser to earn a 2-2 draw at Gillingham with Britt Assombalonga scoring deep into stoppage time to preserve a point.Bobby Olejnik made a very sharp save on three minutes to keep out Bradley Dack after a good run and pass from Hessenthaler, whose father was introduced as the Gillingham Legend before kick-off.
On 11 minutes, Posh found the breakthrough as Bostwick's drive from distance was parried by Nelson and there was ASSOMBALONGA to gobble up the rebound to give Posh the lead and take his tally to 15 goals for the season.
Tomlin saw a low left-footed drive well held by Nelson after a corner was only half cleared by Barrett. On 32 minutes, Kedwell tested Olejnik with a low drive that the Posh shot-stopper grabbed at the second attempt.
Gillingham were forced into a double change three minutes before the break as Whelpdale and Hollands were withdrawn. On 51 minutes, the home side drew themselves level as Brisley was penalised for a foul on the edge of the box and Joe MARTIN stepped up to curl a superb left-footed free-kick into the top corner.
Moments later, Assombalonga had a glorious chance to make it 2-1 after a superb pass from Tomlin, but after bursting into the box, he fired his shot well wide of the far post.
Jeffers then fired wide of the near post after a clever link-up between Ntlhe and Newell down the Posh left. Tomlin fired over from long-range moments after he should have been awarded a penalty kick after taking a tumble in the box.
On 70 minutes, the hosts got themselves in front as a looping cross from Weston was powerfully glanced past Olejnik by Cody MCDONALD.
Hogan Ephraim replaced Joe Newell on 77 minutes as Darren Ferguson shuffled his pack. Ephraim scuffed his shot when well-placed before Mendez-Laing saw a curler saved by Nelson.
Tyrone Barnett replaced Anderson on 86 minutes before there was a delay as one of the officials sustained an injury. On 87 minutes, Nelson produced a fine point blank stop to deny Barnett'#s header after a good Ntlhe cross.
The excellent Tomlin was a whisker away from a leveller as the game entered eight minutes of stoppage time, but his curler went just wide of the post with Nelson beaten.
Olejnik produced a stunning save from McDonald three minutes into overtime as he raced clean through on goal, the Posh shot-stopper producing a stunning save.
Deep into stoppage time, seven minutes in fact, Posh grabbed a deserved equaliser as ASSOMBALONGA back-heeled home as a corner was nodded down into his path.
