Posh Tamed By Wolves
Peterborough United were beaten 2-0 by league leaders and champions-elect Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux with two second half goals condemning Darren Ferguson's men to defeat.Goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik was called upon on 12 minutes to beat away a fierce effort from Bakary Sako as the home side, backed by a noisy home faithful, caused a bit of early panic in the Posh back-line.
Michael Jacobs fired over from 25-yards after finding some room to exploit, while at the other end, Britt Assombalonga saw a shot blocked from range.
Assombalonga was inches away from converting a Swanson cross while McCann saw a shot blocked.
Darren Ferguson made a change at the break with Danny Swanson replaced by Lloyd Isgrove.
The deadlock was broken on 48 minutes as a corner from Michael Jacobs was powered past Olejnik by centre back Danny BATTH, although Shaun Brisley felt that there was a foul as the defender attacked the ball.
Nicky Ajose replaced McQuoid as Posh made an immediate change and moments later, Nathaniel Knight-Percival replaced Payne in the final change.
Olejnik made a routine stop to deny a low long-range effort from Jacobs as the sun came out at Molineux. Olejnik made a stunning save by his near post to deny Sam Ricketts after an error from Nathaniel Knight-Percival by the touchline on 59 minutes.
Assombalonga headed a Tommy Rowe cross over the crossbar on 63 minutes. It was 2-0 on 69 minutes to the home side as a Sako free-kick was turned onto the post by Olejnik and Dave EDWARDS was there to steer home the rebound.
Wolves won a penalty in every sense of the word when Dicko went to ground following a supposed challenge from Bostwick. Sako stepped up, but fired his penalty over the bar with the aid of the crossbar.
Ikeme produced a superb stop to deny a Bostwick effort from range on 82 minutes after an intelligent pass from Ajose. Little then flashed a shot across goal after a patient build up from Posh but the consolation goal was not in the offing.
