Grant Punishes Posh
A depleted Peterborough United were condemned to a second successive Sky Bet League One defeat as Yeovil Town ended their own poor form in front of their own supporters with a narrow 1-0 win at Huish Park.It was a quiet opening to proceedings at Huish Park, but it wasn't long before Marcus Maddison started to set his sights on goal. The former Gateshead winger saw a shot blocked before unleashing a powerful drive from distance which was deflected just past the post.
Jack Payne saw a swerving effort caught by goalkeeper Jacob Kean while Joe Newell saw a low left-footed curler deflected into the arms of the on-loan goalkeeper.
At the other end, Kieffer Moore saw a powerful header from a corner kick tipped onto the crossbar by Ben Alnwick with the Glovers causing problems from set-pieces.
Leitch-Smith fired wide, as did the lively Grant, while full-back Smith rifled a shot inches past the far post as Yeovil began to get on top.
However, it was Posh who were desperately close to the breakthrough midway through the first half as Conor Washington and Maddison exchanged passes and as the ball was returned to the later, he clipped a left-foot curler from 20-yards onto the underside of the crossbar before Newell fired wide with the rebound. Maddison felt the shot had crossed the line, but the referee waved away the protests.
On the stroke of half-time, Washington fired into the side-netting at the back post after a deep cross from Michael Smith.
The home side created the best chance of the second half with Moore superbly denied by Alnwick after a poor header from Jack Baldwin presented him with the chance.
Maddison fired wide at the other end in a rare Posh foray, while Washington curled wide.
However, on 88 minutes, the Gloves nicked a winner that their possession deserved as Joel GRANT danced through several poor challenges and poked the ball past Alnwick.
