Posh Lose By The Seaside
Peterborough United were condemned to a 2-0 defeat by Blackpool at a rain-soaked Bloomfield Road as a nightmare start proved just too much to overcome.Posh were behind inside the first minute and were up against it from that moment on, but huffed and puffed as they tried to work their way back into the contest.
The visitors had more possession and had more shots on goal, but never looked likely of breaking through and the Seasiders recorded their third successive victory.
Manager Graham Westley named an attacking line-up for the clash at Bloomfield Road with Martin Samuelsen handed his first Posh start at the expense of Marcus Maddison who dropped down to the bench. Jon Taylor was also restored to the line-up with Harry Beautyman named among the substitutes.
It was a nightmare start for Posh as they conceded within the first minute. Ricardo Almeida Santos was penalised for a foul on CULLEN and the striker took the spot-kick himself, his effort was superbly tipped onto the post by Alnwick but was on hand to tap home the rebound.
Posh were dealt a further blow with Callum Elder limping out of proceedings after a heavy challenge, Andrew Fox his replacement.
Michael Bostwick glanced an Erhun Oztumer corner kick wide of the target on 20 minutes as Posh tried to get themselves back in the game but they were struggling to retain possession and the Seasiders were causing problems themselves.
On 33 minutes, the hosts made it 2-0 as more dallying in the Posh defence was punished, POTTS allowed to race clear, round Alnwick and slot into an empty net.
Lee Angol fired wide after a low Fox centre while Alnwick produced an important stop to deny Cullen after Bostwick's pass across the pitch was intercepted by the former Luton Town man.
Samuelsen dragged a left-foot shot wide of the target as the first half approached it's conclusion.
Posh made a change at the break with Marcus Maddison replacing Lee Angol.
Maddison twice saw shots blocked in the early exchanges before Michael Bostwick's low drive whistled just past the post.
Maddison saw a curler beaten away by the Blackpool goalkeeper before Erhun Oztumer and Jon Taylor fired over from distance.
Oztumer then saw a fierce drive pushed aside by Lyness as Posh pressed, but they couldn't find the breakthrough and lost for the first time in eight games.
