Beautyman Bags Winner For Posh
It wasn't pretty, it was never going to be on an extremely heavy pitch which was not helped by a huge downpour of snow and then rain, but Peterborough United battled gamely to secure three vital points with a narrow 1-0 win over Yeovil Town.Goalkeeper Scott Loach made the first save of the afternoon, beating away an effort from Jamar Loza with Nana firing the rebound over the crossbar.
A low Marcus Maddison cross was sliced wide on the stretch by Kyle Vassell at the far post on 12 minutes as Posh pushed for a breakthrough on a very tricky surface.
A hopeful ball forward from Anderson picked out Vassell on the quarter hour mark, but his volley from an acute angle cleared the crossbar. A long range effort on his weaker foot from Smith was tipped over by Steer.
The deadlock was broken on 29 minutes as Maddison's cross appeared to squirm into the back of the net via the foot of Harry BEAUTYMAN who was certainly claiming the goal.
The visitors made a change at the break with Ajay Leitch-Smith introduced for Loza.
Brisley made a fine clearance from his own goal-line moments after the re-start as the visitors made a bright start to the second period.
On 53 minutes, Conor Washington nutmegged his defender and burst into the box, but from a tight angle, his shot was saved by the body of Steer who did well to dash from his line.
Newell was denied by Steer by his near post less than 60 seconds later after weaving past two challenges.
Shepherd dragged a low shot wide of the target for the Glovers on the hour mark as the visitors stepped it up a gear. Posh made a change on 67 minutes with Luke James replacing Vassell, whose last action was to somehow blaze over from close-range following a superb Newell centre.
Aaron Mclean replaced Washington on 77 minutes as Darren Ferguson tried to find a second goal to calm nerves. Newell's excellent cross was palmed away to safety by Steer as the game entered the final 10 minutes.
Kgosi Ntlhe replaced Maddison on 84 minutes. Posh clung on grimly for the final few minutes as Yeovil pumped the ball into the box, but after four minutes of added time, Posh sealed three vital points.
