The football club would like to issue the following clarification.
Peterborough United Football Club would like to make it clear that the wording in a recent press article with relation to the Nene Park Academy was taken out of context. We have a fantastic relationship with the school and continue to work extremely closely in partnership with the NPA.Today's game sees us welcome representatives from the Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust as guests of the football club. CMAT are made up of a collection of academies across the region, including at our training ground home based at Nene Park Academy, the Mick George Training Academy. CMAT has a clear vision of providing high quality and dynamic education for all at the heart of our communities.
The partnership between the club and the school continues to grow and is a unique partnership across the footballing pyramid.
Most of the football clubs under 14, 15 and 16 academy players attend the school by parental choice which sees them increase on their contact coaching time with their core PE taking place under the guidance of club coaches as well as after school training sessions.
The Peterborough United Foundation team also work closely with Nene Park Academy on a number of projects, including the successful Futsal scholarship programme. A total of 35 boys and girls are currently on the programme which sees players mixing their education, which is lead by Nene Park Academy staff, and futsal training, lead by the Foundations highly qualified Futsal coaches.
The players take part in weekly Futsal fixtures against other football league clubs and currently the boys and girls are both flying high in their respective leagues. Not only are the players achieving on the pitch, but also in the classroom with the help of a fantastic team of teaching staff. Last years results continued the outstanding trend of achievement since the partnership started four years ago.
The school have helped to play a major role in the development of the facilities for the community at the Mick George Training Academy which includes 6 changing rooms and 2 fully functioning classrooms that are used daily by the Nene Park Academy students that are linked with the football club.
The football club would like to thank everyone at Nene Park Academy for their ongoing excellent support and are working closely with the school to strengthen the partnership further.
