Joe Gormley nets hat-trick as Posh go goal crazy at Histon.
Peterborough United concluded their pre-season friendly campaign with a comprehensive victory over Histon at the Glassworld Stadium with striker Joe Gormley bagging a first half hat-trick.Dave Farrell's men eventually ran out 10-0 winners with substitute Aaron Williams (2), Matty Stevens, Adil Nabi, Jermaine Anderson, Jordan Nicholson and Tom Nichols also on target.
Jordan Nicholson, on his return to Histon, clipped the outside of the post with an effort inside the opening three minutes at the Glassworld Stadium as Posh tried to get themselves in front early on.
The deadlock was broken on 11 minutes as Adil NABI fired low into the bottom corner of the net from 20-yards after a patient Posh build-up.
Gormley had the ball in the back of the net on the quarter hour mark as Nichols forced a cross into his path, but the offside flag cut short any celebrations.
Harry Anderson fired wide of the target from 25-yards as Posh pushed for a second goal. Posh doubled the lead on 19 minutes and it was a simple finish for GORMLEY from close-range after Nichols had been superbly denied by Conroy.
Conroy made another fine stop moments later to deny Nabi after the midfielder had made space for himself inside the penalty area. Conroy again made a decent stop to deny Nabi on 26 minutes as Harry Anderson did well down the right hand side to beat his full-back.
Nabi was denied by a sprawling stop from Conroy on 33 minutes with Bostwick glancing the corner wide of the far post. Posh made it 3-0 less than 60 seconds later and it came at the end of a flowing move, Harry Anderson with the sublime cross and NICHOLSON glanced it home for a goal on his return to the Glassworld.
Posh made it 4-0 on 38 minutes as GORMLEY produced a cool, composed finish after latching onto a clever Jermaine Anderson pass.
It was 5-0 moments later as Jermaine ANDERSON produced a toe-poked finish from close-range after good work in the build-up from Nabi. And within a flash it was 6-0 as GORMLEY completed his hat-trick from close-range after a left-wing centre.
Posh made a double change at the break with Jermaine Anderson and Joe Gormley replaced by Aaron Williams and Cameron Gow. It didn't take long for Posh to grab goal number seven, the two substitutes combining, Gow with the cross, WILLIAMS guiding a header into the top corner.
Tom NICHOLS got his name on the scoresheet moments later as Chettle picked out the run of NICHOLS, who made no mistake, coolly firing past a shell shocked Conroy. WILLIAMS made it 9-0 moments later, a clever finish from close-range as Histon couldn't cope with the movement.
Nichols was a whisker away from number 10 but his curler went inches past the far post. Henry denied Russell on 70 minutes before Chettle fired over at the other end after patient hold up play from Stevens.
Conroy did well to beat away a fierce Nabi effort on 72 minutes. Nicholson squandered a fine chance to make it 10 after taking two excellent touches, but he lifted his effort over the crossbar.
Williams fired wide of the far post on 77 minutes after a well weighted pass from Stevens as Posh pressed for number 10, but it was proving elusive.
Nabi smacked the bar with a free kick as the fixture went into the final 10 minutes. Williams was denied by substitute goalkeeper Chapman after he was put clean through.
The 10th goal did arrive as the game came to a close, substitute Matty STEVENS twisting and turning in the box before producing a low calm finish into the corner.
