Posh End Checkatrade Trophy Stage With Away Win
Peterborough United ended their involvement in the Checkatrade Trophy with a 2-1 win at League Two side Barnet on a bitterly cold night at the Hive with Paul Taylor and George Moncur on target.Youngster Kasey Douglas made a late appearance as a substitute and nearly capped his debut with a fine goal.
Grant McCann's men made the breakthrough on six minutes and the move was started by a fine switch from Jerome Binnom-Williams into the path of Hayden White, he went on a forceful run and his perfect low centre was simple for Paul TAYLOR who tapped home from two-yards.
Martin Allen made a change on 10 minutes with Muggleton replaced by Payne, I would imagine to fit the competition rules quota of first team players.
Almeida Santos headed a Nabi corner kick wide of the target on 24 minutes after a sustained spell of pressure from the visitors.
Tomlinson fired well wide of the target on 30 minutes while Taylor fired straight at Stephens after a strong run.
Angol tested Stephens after linking well with Moncur on 33 minutes, the keeper doing well to parry the ball clear. Angol fired well over the bar on 42 minutes after wrestling possession back in a decent area.
Moncur was denied by Stephens after a good run from Edwards on 48 minutes while McGee made a routine stop to deny Nicholls from range.
Angol saw a curling effort beaten away by Stephens on the hour mark after a swift Posh counter attack.
Posh made their first change moments later with on-loan Spurs winger Nathan Oduwa replacing Edwards. Angol was denied the goal he craved on 62 minutes after he was superbly picked out by Nabi, keeper Stephens making his best save of the night.
Taylor then curled a shot over the bar from 25-yards as Posh pushed in search of the second goal their dominance deserved.
Moncur produced some excellent close control and pinpoint pass to pick out Angol again on 64 minutes, but the defender did well to deflect the ball behind for a corner kick.
McGee was called upon to make his first serious save of the night moments later, denying Akpa-Akpro with his feet with the rebound volleyed wide.
Nabi fired over from 30-yards on 66 minutes after collecting a pass from Moncur as Posh continued to create.
The Bees drew themselves level on 66 minutes as substitute AMALUZOR turned and fired low into the bottom corner from just inside the box. Akpa-Akpro lobbed an effort inches wide moments later after McGee could only half clear a ball forward.
McGee made another good stop to deny Akpa-Akpro on 74 minutes while Moncur was a whisker away at the other end with a left-foot curler.
Kyei headed over from close-range after a well-worked Bees corner kick on 82 minutes. Moments later, Posh got themselves back in front as Taylor got to the by-line and fed MONCUR who couldn't miss from two-yards.
Youngster Kasey Douglas was handed four minutes as a substitute, his first action in the first team as Taylor made way. McGee made a brave stop to deny Akpa-Akpro as Barnet piled on the pressure. Douglas had a chance to cap his debut but his curler went wide after a strong run down the left.
