Posh host Championship side at the ABAX.
Peterborough United entertain Sky Bet Championship newcomers Barnsley at the ABAX Stadium on Saturday (3pm) in the final home pre-season friendly ahead of the new campaign.
Grant McCann's men begin their League One season at Rochdale on Saturday 6th August and with only an XI in action at Histon on Tuesday evening, this could be the final chance for players to secure their spot in the starting line-up for the clash at Spotland.
The Posh boss is looking forward to the fixture with a side that he spent just over a year playing for. "I still have a house in the Barnsley area and I really enjoyed my time at the club. Simon Davey was the man in charge in my time there and we had a good side.
"I have said to the players that this game will be their toughest test of pre-season because I believe they have recruited very well during the close season. I will be treating this game like it is a league game, so I will name seven substitutes and I will make changes if and when I see fit.
"This is a good game for us. Everybody is fighting for their place in the side for the opening day of the season," McCann said.
Posh also have an XI in action at Ware on Saturday, a team managed by former Posh striker Ken Charlery. McCann confirmed that a number of squad players will be in action at that game.
"Ricardo Almeida Santos and Jon Taylor will both get minutes at Ware. They have both had knocks and need a game so they will be involved. Jordan Nicholson, Aaron Williams, Joe Gormley and Matthew Stevens will also be involved at Ware," McCann added.
Tickets remain on sale for the clash with the Tykes at www.theposhonlinestore.com, via the Ticketmaster hotline 0844 847 1934* and in person at the ABAX Stadium Box Office.
