Posh made a superb start to the contest, opening the scoring after just one minute and seven seconds, Andrew HUGHES diverting the ball past Martin from a wonderful Marcus Maddison free-kick from the left. It was a first Posh goal for Hughes, who had initially won the free-kick with an impressive burst down the left hand side.
Maddison tested Martin with a swerving effort on six minutes after an excellent ball into his feet by 17-year-old Leonardo Da Silva Lopes. Downing planted a header inches wide of the target on 12 minutes after Smith had felled Powell in a wide area.
Martin was called upon to make a decent save from Maddison on 14 minutes as the winger cut inside onto his right-foot and let fly from 25-yards.
Baldock sliced a shot wide from 20-yards moments after Baldwin had produced a fine block to deny Carruthers' low centre.
Martin beat away a fierce effort from Taylor on 24 minutes after good work again by Maddison in between the lines. Tyler produced a stunning stop to deny Powell as Maynard somehow managed to stay onside with everyone stopping for a flag.
Walsh was cautioned for a foul on Nichols after a wonderful turn from Da Silva Lopes that took two players out of the game. Maddison fired wide on 36 minutes from 30-yards after dispossessing Williams in midfield.
Downing was cautioned for poleaxing Taylor by the touch-line before the referee brought an end to the first period.
Martin produced a fine stop to claw away an Edwards header on 50 minutes after a dink into the box by skipper Forrester.
Nichols headed wide of the target following a clipped centre from Forrester on 57 minutes, moments after MK made a double change with Ben Reeves and Dean Bowditch introduced.
Lewington was booked for a hard tackle on Maddison by the touchline on 65 minutes. Powell cut inside onto his right-foot moments later inside the box, but he couldn't keep his shot down.
On 71 minutes, Posh got themselves a 2-0 lead as a wonderful delivery from Maddison was headed past his own goalkeeper by full-back BALDOCK to the delight of the Posh fans behind the goal.
McCann made an immediate change, replacing the limping Taylor with Callum Chettle. Tyler denied a deflected Reeves effort on 84 minutes before McCann made another change with Shaquile Coulthirst replacing the excellent Nichols.
Maddison was denied superbly by Martin late on who repeated the feat to keep out Forrester as Posh pushed for a late third on the break.
