Posh boss Grant McCann has named his captain for the 2016-2017 campaign.
Peterborough United manager Grant McCann has revealed that midfielder Chris Forrester will be the club's captain for the 2016-2017 campaign.
Forrester, who was excellent in his first season with the football club last term, was informed of the news at the beginning of pre-season training. Michael Smith has been named as the club's vice-captain.
McCann explained his decision to theposh.com: "The reason I chose Chris was because of his temperament and his character, two attributes that I feel will make him a good leader. His ability is there for all to see on the pitch.
"He might not be the most vocal man, but what he does on the pitch inspires others and when he speaks, the team listen.
"I said to Chris, 'just be yourself, there is no need to change' and I am confident he will take it in his stride. He played an awful lot of games last year with the Irish season into a full Football League campaign, so he will be able to cope with this league season no problem," McCann said.
Forrester was a proud man to be given the armband and said: "I had a chat with the gaffer and he is confident in me, I am really looking forward to it, it is a new challenge for me and one that I am relishing.
"I joined last year and had a decent season and I want to build on that. I try and let my football do the talking and how they see me, hopefully I can lead by example and try and add some things into my game and improve my communication skills. It is a challenge, but one that I am really looking forward to," Forrester said.
