Posh 'B' team beaten by Cambridge 'A'.
Posh started the game wanting to continue where they left off, with a win. However going into the game they knew this was going to be tricky as only 24 hours before kick-off players had to be withdrawn from the fixture.Posh started the game against Cambridge very positively and kept the ball well along with creating many chances. Posh opened the scoring from a nice pattern of play, Hollis got himself into the corner and played the ball across goal which hit the Cambridge defenders arm and a penalty was awarded. Taylor stepped up and converted well.
Cambridge started to see more off the ball and equalised through a counter attack. Posh were then up against it and conceded straight after as a Posh defender cleared poorly and the Cambridge forward was there to hit it past Phillips who was Posh's replacement goalkeeper.
Posh went into half time a goal down but in the first 10 minutes dominated possession and were able to get a goal through Wilcox who received the ball out wide and his first touch took him towards the keeper and with a quick toe-punt finish managed to leave the keeper rooted to the spot.
The game was in the balance for both teams and it was the type of game one goal would be needed to win it for either team. However the U's managed to get that much needed goal as again a Posh defender was caught on the ball trying to play across goal which created a 1 v1 against the Posh GK, Phillips made a good save, however he was unable to hold onto the ball and the Cambridge player slotted it into the net.
Posh were running out of time to find an equaliser and were high pressing, however it was too late in the game and Cambridge ran away winners with all three points. Posh's performance in the first ten minutes of each half was very good, but they were punished by a very strong U’s side.
Posh: Phillips, Batten, Messina, Taylor, Hollis, Buckley, Wilcox.
