Posh Moving On Up After Home Success

Peterborough United are up to fifth in the Sky Bet League One table after a comfortable 3-1 success over Bury at the ABAX Stadium.

Two goals at the start of the second half from Marcus Maddison and Tom Nichols saw Grant McCann's men get over the early set-back of a Hayden White own goal to surge to three points.

Grant McCann's men made a nightmare start and found themselves behind inside the opening two minutes as Hayden White stabbed the ball into an empty net after a low cross from the right from Ismail.

McGee was called upon moments later to deny Mayor as the Shakers had Posh struggling in the opening exchanges.

Maddison was a whisker away from levelling on 10 minutes after he was found by Baldwin, the low shot finding the side-netting with Williams nowhere near it.

Nichols glanced a header wide from a White delivery on 14 minutes as Posh continued to probe. Forrester curled a shot over the top on the quarter hour mark with his left-foot.

Forrester tested Williams with a low shot from the edge of the box after wriggling into some space. Leigh dragged a shot wide of McGee's post on 23 minutes after a well-worked corner kick.

Coulthirst saw a deft header clip the outside of the post on the half hour mark after a patient Posh move involving Edwards, Maddison and Hughes.

Posh drew themselves level on 37 minutes and what a goal it was, White with a deep cross to FORRESTER, he played an instant one-two with Nichols and finished superbly past Williams.

Da Silva Lopes produced a fine bit of individual skill to burst into the box on 41 minutes, but he lifted his shot over the top. Excellent work from the 17-year-old though.

Posh got themselves in front for the first time in the contest on 48 minutes as Edwards picked out MADDISON who coolly finished past Williams with his right-foot.

Posh extended their advantage on 53 minutes as a Da Silva Lopes cross was met by NICHOLS, his shot was diverted into the net by Etuhu.

McGee denied Vaughan with a smart stop moments later as Bury pressed for an immediate response. George Moncur replaced the excellent Maddison on 72 minutes, the latter getting a standing ovation from the crowd.

The Shakers made their first change on the hour mark with Tom Walker replacing Danns in midfield. Forrester curled a free-kick over the bar on 64 minutes after Mayor went into the book for a trip on Maddison.

Coulthirst fired narrowly wide on 80 minutes after a good high press from the Posh unit. Da Silva Lopes was cautioned on  87 minutes for a foul.
