Former player passes away aged 80.
Peterborough United club historian Peter Lane has penned a short tribute to Tommy Asher, who was a former player during the Midland League days.
"It was with very deep regret to hear from his granddaughter of the passing of Tommy Asher, who passed away on 11th March 2017, aged 80 years. Tommy played just two games for the Posh in the Midland League in 1959, but was a regular for the Reserves in the Eastern counties League.
"Tommy did however finish that season as top scorer with over 29 goals. I remember him during that time as a clever little player who certainly knew how to score, but was restricted from playing in the first team due to the brilliance of Dennis Emery who played at inside-right as so did Tommy.
"During his youth footballing days Tommy represented England Schoolboys and playing alongside the famous Manchester United player, the great Duncan Edwards. Tommy joined Posh from Notts County in 1959 after playing there for 4 years. Our condolences to his surviving family. R.I.P. Tommy."
