Peterborough United are saddened to learn of the death of former player Billy Hails, who has passed away at the age of 82.
Hails made 94 Football League appearances for Posh, but racked up 318 appearances in total. He scored 28 of his 114 goals for the club in Football League matches. Only six players have score more goals for Posh in the club’s history. He also managed the club for a brief spell.
Billy's son Julian said: "We are shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our wonderful Dad Billy. In recent years he has been coping amazingly well with Alzheimer's and has inspired us all with his spirit in the face of adversity. He will be greatly missed by all his children, grand-children and extended family."
Club Historian Peter Lane added: "Billy was arguably the best right winger this Club has ever had and a wonderful person and an absolute true legend."
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
