Posh face struggling Gillingham at the ABAX Stadium on Saturday afternoon and we appreciate your support.
Peterborough United entertain Gillingham at the ABAX Stadium in Sky Bet League One action on Saturday (3pm) as Grant McCann’s men return to action following an enforced break last weekend with the Charlton fixture postponed due to international call-ups for the opposition.
Gillingham parted company with interim manager Peter Taylor in midweek amid rumours of a managerial appointment ahead of the weekend, but coach Steve Lovell was in the hot-seat for the midweek press conference and spoke about a change of style.
There will be a couple of familiar faces in the Gills squad on Saturday with defender Gabriel Zakuani available for selection after international duty with the Democratic Republic of Congo. One-time loanee Ben Nugent is also on the books at Gillingham.
TEAM NEWS
Posh are set to welcome back Gwion Edwards from injury for the game. Edwards has trained well this week after missing the last few games with a muscle injury. Callum Chettle is also fit and available for selection after a spell on the sidelines. Junior Morias is the only absentee, he is out for the long-term with a thigh injury.
Gillingham welcome back Zakuani from international duty and he should go straight into the side after last weekend’s live televised defeat to Portsmouth. Midfielder Mark Byrne will be available again following suspension, but forward Tom Eaves is serving out a four-match ban.
Defender Bradley Garmston could feature for the first time this season following a calf injury. Midfielder Scott Wagstaff (calf) should also be involved, but defenders Ben Nugent (foot), Luke O'Neill (hamstring) and Alex Lacey (ankle) are doubts.
MCCANN QUOTES
“More than ever, we need to be concentrating on ourselves this weekend. We need to get back to playing the way we know we can. The players are looking forward to playing at the ABAX Stadium, they enjoy playing at our stadium and we want to put on a performance after the disappointment of the second half showing against Oxford United.”
FROM THE OPPOSITION
“It will be different. My style of football, I’ve got a way of playing that I’m not going to divulge obviously. I’ve got a way that I enjoy, that I think players will enjoy and express themselves. We wanted to be more attacking before but sometimes the quality of the ball isn’t good enough or there weren’t enough options ahead. We’ve got to be tight defensively but we’ve got to do better with the ball. If you have more options when you have the ball then you’ve got more chance of creating things,” interim manager Steve Lovell said.
