On Wednesday 1st May, the Posh Scholarship played against the league's bottom team, Millwall B, looking to complete a league double over them.
Having beaten Millwall a few weeks ago, Posh started the game slowly, looking very complacent. After a few early warnings signs in the first couple of minutes from the Millwall forwards, Posh soon got a grip of the game and started to dominate. It took Posh just under 10 minutes to take the lead after a Munns cross gave Cook the simplest of finishes. After a flurry of Posh chances in the first half they doubled their lead on the half-hour mark again through Cook after good work from Bayly. Posh were not settling on their two-goal lead and soon extended it after goals from Palmer, Bayly and a Cook hat-trick completed a very comfortable first half.
After the break, Posh continued to look determined for more and scored their sixth within minutes of the break after Denton assisted Bayly for his second goal of the game. With a six goal lead, Posh could be forgiven for taking their foot off the gas but that wasn’t the case and two quick-fire goals from Munns either side of a Millwall consolation piled more misery on the league’s bottom side. There was time for Posh to add another three goals to their tally through Goymour, Denton and a Bayly hat-trick to round of a fantastic afternoon for Posh.
The result pushes Posh up to 4th in the league and they will head into their last two fixtures of the season full of confidence.
Squad: Grypicz, Braid, Melton, England (c), Mulholland, Goymour, Palmer, Baig, Munns, Cook, Bayly. Subs: Denton, Penman.
