Posh welcome Karl Robinson’s Oxford United to the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday.
Peterborough United welcome Oxford United to the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday in Sky Bet League One action (3pm) with the visitors left frustrated in midweek when their scheduled fixture with Crewe Alexandra was postponed.
It was the second time that the U’s had seen their clash with the Railwaymen cancelled with Karl Robinson instead using the opportunity for an in-house game at the Kassam Stadium to continue their fitness work ahead of a busy schedule of fixtures. That in-house game finished goalless.
Posh go into the game on the back of a 2-0 victory over local rivals Northampton Town at the PTS Academy Stadium with those not involved getting minutes under their belt for the reserve team on Tuesday in a 2-2 draw with Queens Park Rangers at the Mick George Training Academy.
TEAM NEWS
Jack Taylor played 75 minutes for the Republic of Ireland under 21s in Italy on Tuesday afternoon. He returned to England on Wednesday and was tested on Thursday morning as per EFL protocol. Providing he returns a negative test result; he will train on Friday and be involved in the squad on Saturday.
Young striker Ricky-Jade Jones is unavailable as he recovers from an operation which is likely to keep him out of action for around three months. Joel Cooper will not feature for Oxford United at Posh on Saturday.
It was felt the turnaround after international duty was going to be too tight, so the winger has been granted a couple of days to spend with his family. Cooper was away with the Northern Ireland squad, but is still waiting to make his senior debut. Oxford are hopeful of strengthening their squad ahead of the 5pm Friday transfer deadline.
FROM THE GAFFER
“Oxford will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season, they have an experienced manager, good players and they play good football. They were probably left a little frustrated their game was postponed for the second time in mid-week, but that won’t affect their preparations for this game on Saturday,” Darren Ferguson said.
