This week, between 7th-13th June is Carers Week and the Posh Foundation are supporting it!
The theme for the week this year is to make caring visible and valued. Many people do not realise that they or people they know are a carer. A carer is someone of any age who looks after a family member, partner or friend (who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction and cannot cope without their support).
Caring Together is a charity that provide information and advice, run services in our local communities and campaign so that carers have choices.
At Peterborough United Foundation, we are proud to hold a Carer Friendly Tick from Caring Together, recognising our commitment to supporting carers in Peterborough and the surrounding area.
On Wednesday (9th June) afternoon, Foundation team member Jenna Lusk appeared on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire to talk about the importance of organisations recognising and supporting carers, why Peterborough United Foundation do this and became Carer Friendly Tick Award holders and speaking more in depth about the award and types of awards Caring Together give out.
On Thursday (9th June) Jenna also spoke at Caring Togethers ‘Carer Friendly Tick’ workshop about the award and the benefits of making your organisation carer friendly.
Jenna said: “At Peterborough United Foundation, we wanted to make sure that we are supporting all carers we come into contact with and to also understand how to recognise those carers. Working with Caring Together and being awarded the Carers Friendly Tick Award was really important to us and it has been a very easy process. We enjoy working with Caring Together and look forward to developing this partnership further.”
