Posh chalked up back to back wins on the road with an eventful 4-2 victory over Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.
Peterborough United moved within a point of second place in the Sky Bet League One table after an eventful 4-2 success at Bloomfield against Blackpool with goals from Kwame Poku, Harrison Burrows, Ricky-Jade Jones and Ephron Mason-Clark securing the three points.
Posh dominated the opening 10 minutes in terms of possession, but only really had a couple of blocked efforts from David Ajiboye and Ricky-Jade Jones for their efforts. However, on the quarter hour mark, the deadlock was broken and it was total football from Darren Ferguson’s men from back to front, a punched ball through to Harrison Burrows, he picked out Ephron Mason-Clark in a wide area and his cross found Kwame POKU who took the ball down brilliantly before drilling a shot into the bottom corner.
A rare error from Ronnie Edwards on 24 minutes gifted Kylian Kouassi a shooting chance but the striker fired wide with his left-foot. James Husband became the first player to go into the book for a trip on Jadel Katongo.
Posh had a great chance to double the lead on 36 minutes as Mason-Clark was upended in the box by Pennington but the former Barnet man saw his spot-kick saved by Dan Grimshaw. Katongo saw a half volley from distance deflected wide of the target moments later after a corner was only half-cleared.
Kouassi headed over from a good Thompson cross on 43 minutes as the Seasiders came close to finding a leveller. Burrows was cautioned for a foul on CJ Hamilton four minutes into first half injury-time. Within a minute of the second half getting underway, Blackpool were reduced to 10-men as Casey was shown a straight red for dragging down Jones as he raced clear.
From the resulting free-kick, Posh doubled their lead as Harrison BURROWS whipped a brilliant left-foot set-piece around the wall and past Grimshaw. Neil Critchley responded by making a double change with Dembele and Ekpiteta introduced into the fray.
Carey was repelled by Bilokapic after a stinging drive and moments later the keeper produced an even better save to somehow keep out the same Blackpool man. Kenny Dougall was cautioned for dissent on 56 minutes.
On 57 minutes, Posh made it 3-0 and what another brilliant goal from back to front from Ferguson’s men, Kioso, Kyprianou involved, Poku raiding through the middle and his perfectly waited pass was tucked home by JONES.
Neil Critchley was cautioned for dissent on the side-lines in the aftermath of the goal. The Seasiders reduced the arrears moments later as a deep free-kick was nodded back across goal and DOUGALL powered a header past Bilokapic from close-range. Knight was then cautioned for dissent.
A few minutes later, the hosts reduced the arrears further, Bilokapic initially did well to keep out Rhodes’ effort but CAREY slammed home the rebound. Ajiboye fired over from the edge of the box as Zak Sturge replaced Burrows at left-back.
Mason-Clark saw an acrobatic over-head kick clear the crossbar as appeals for handball against Husband in the box were waved away. Katongo was cautioned for kicking the ball away before he was forced off with cramp.
Jones saw a goal-bound effort superbly blocked by substitute Ekpiteta on 78 minutes as Posh tried to get a fourth to quell a lot of nervousness in their defending. Nine minutes of added time was indicated by the fourth official.
Posh grabbed a fourth on the break as Kioso intercepted a pass out of defence and rolled the ball to MASON-CLARK who took the ball around the keeper and slotted the ball into the empty net. Clarke-Harris saw a shot deflected wide of the target from 25-yards five minutes into stoppage time.
