Dan Lawlor bolsters his midfield options for the 2023/24 campaign.
Peterborough United Women are delighted to announce the signing of MK Dons midfielder Renai Bennett for the 2023/24 FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands campaign, with her also agreeing terms with the club.
Bennett, who has been at Milton Keynes Dons since the under 14s, progressing from the under 23s to the first team, becomes Dan Lawlor’s fourth signing of the summer and bolstered his midfield options for the new season.
The midfielder, who made seven appearances for MK Dons in the Southern Premier Division last season, already knows a few familiar faces within the Posh squad, playing alongside Niamh Connor, Neive Corry and Elloise Copson in the Posh scholarship.
Bennett, who is set to be involved in Sunday’s clash against Sutton Coldfield Town, was delighted to embark on a new challenge and highlighted the importance of the club’s ambition in making her decision to put pen to paper.
“I’m thrilled to have signed for the club,” Bennett said. “It’s a good challenge and one that’s out of my comfort zone, which is what I was looking for. The ambitions of the club, especially the standards they have set out this season, and how they present themselves as the club were key reasons for me to sign for Posh. I already know a few players in the squad from my time at Posh Scholarship, so that will make it easier to settle in.
“I would say I’m a very attacking-minded player and I think my physical strength is a key part of how I play. I like to get the ball to feet, run at defenders and I would like to class myself as skilful. I’m really excited to get going this weekend and looking forward to seeing the atmosphere in our first home game of the season.”
Lawlor said: “Renai is a player who has a lot of technical ability, she is quick and a fantastic finisher from what we’ve seen so far. She is a player that we have needed for a while and offers something different to anyone else we have. Renai is a great addition for us and a player with a great attitude who wants to play for the football club for all the right reasons. We’re excited to work with Renai for the new campaign and helping us achieve our targets as a team."
Renai will wear the number 23 shirt for the FA Women's National League campaign and will be involved in this weekend's fixture against Sutton Coldfield Town.
