Defender János Bodnár agrees two-year professional development contract.
Peterborough United are delighted to announce that youngster János Bodnár has agreed a two-year professional development contract at the club.
The right-back, who was a constant figure for the under 18s last season, featured for the under 21s at the back-end of the campaign and has tasted experience at first team level after appearing on the bench in the last game of the 2021/22 campaign and came on as a substitute in the 3-0 victory over Hull City in a pre-season friendly last month.
Bodnár, who also received a call-up to Hungarian National Squad at under 19s level, was delighted to be handed this opportunity and is looking forward to progressing in the under 21s group.
“It is a very proud moment for me and my family because this is what I have been working towards for all my life. The main goal has always been to get into the first team, but I have been really pleased with the way I have developed in the last year or so, getting minutes for the first team in pre-season. So I’m very thankful to the gaffer and all the club staff for giving me these opportunities to be involved with the first team and I am looking forward to building on in the under 21s this season.
“One of my strengths is going forward and in today’s modern game, a full-back needs to have the ability to attack but also defend. I do feel one of the areas I have to improve is defending, but I feel that has got a lot better. I already have experience in the under 21s and the target is to get plenty of minutes this season, and hopefully push for the first team.”
Manager Grant McCann said: “He is a tremendous young player, who has a great attitude and is always keen to learn and develop as a player. So, we are really pleased that he has decided to sign as he’s everything we like and we are excited to see how he develops throughout the upcoming campaign.”
