Former Posh Academy graduate looks ahead to meeting between two of his former sides on Thursday night.
There have not been too many players down the years that can count Peterborough United and Everton has their former clubs – but Academy graduate Simon Davies is one of them and he will be an interested observer when the two clubs meet in the Emirates FA Cup third round on Thursday night.
Davies featured just over 50 times for the Toffees following a move from Tottenham Hotspur after progressing through the Posh Academy alongside some talented team-mates including Adam Drury and Matthew Etherington.
“It is a great cup-tie for everyone at Peterborough, for the young players it will be an opportunity to show what they can against Premier League players, and you never know what can happen in a cup-tie, but it will be tough because although Everton are not in great form at this moment in time, they will still be a strong side and the fans will want them to have a good cup run in the final season at Goodison Park.
“I am sure it will be a full-house, it is great that so many Posh fans are making the long journey and I am sure they will enjoy it regardless of the result. Goodison Park is such an iconic stadium, it is a tight ground, the fans are close to the action and as a result, it is always a good atmosphere.
“When Matthew and I were at the club coaching with the under 18s and the under 21s, the club were always about bringing young players to the club and improving them and they do it well. I know that the average age of the Posh squad is very young at the minute, but you would think they would go out with no fear.
“I had some special times at both Everton and Peterborough. Obviously, Peterborough gave me my chance to play first team football, and I will always be grateful for that opportunity that Barry Fry gave me – it is the reason why me and Matt came back to do the coaching as we wanted to give something back.” Davies said.
