Malik Mothersille in action against Wigan Athletic

Posh suffer 3-0 defeat at the hands of Wigan Athletic in Sky Bet League One action at the Brick Community Stadium.

Peterborough United suffered a second successive defeat on the road as Wigan Athletic recorded a 3-0 victory over Darren Ferguson's men at the Brick Community Stadium.

Posh were already without eight first team players and lost skipper Hector Kyprianou to a hamstring injury midway through the first half on a tough night in Lancashire as the home side made it four clean sheets in a row.

Posh fell behind on 11 minutes as TAYLOR was given time and space to guide a close-range header past Jed Steer.

Three minutes later, Posh had a huge chance to level the scores as Ricky-Jade Jones got in behind and squared for Kwame Poku, but he saw his close-range effort kept out by goalkeeper Sam Tickle.

On 16 minutes, midfielder Archie Collins saw a deep cross smack against the crossbar with Poku seeing the follow-up blocked.

Kyprianou and Sam Curtis were both cautioned before Kyprianou was forced off with a hamstring injury, a big blow to the Posh cause.

Poku saw a 25-yard free-kick deflected over the top before Posh were a whisker away from levelling as a fine move saw Hayes cross for Mothersille, but he fired wide of the post.

Poku and Olakigbe both fired wide at either end before the half-time whistle brought the first 45 minutes to a close.

Three minutes after the re-start, Wigan added a second as TAYLOR got down the side of the Posh defence and rolled the ball past the advancing Steer.

Dornelly went into the book for a shirt tug before Steer tipped over from substitute Smith. Poku saw a deflected effort tipped around the post by Tickle on 62 minutes.

Wigan added a third on 80 minutes as substitute Callum McMANAMAN cut inside and curled a superb right-foot effort into the top corner.
