Posh full-back James Dornelly made an appearance off the bench for the England Men’s Elite squad, who recorded an excellent 4-0 victory over Germany on Friday.
Dornelly, who has been with Posh since the age of eight, has developed through the Academy and established himself as a first-team regular for Darren Ferguson’s side this campaign – featuring 20 times across all competitions.
His impressive performances this term has put his name on the international radar, with the number 33 was rewarded with a late call-up by Interim Head Coach Paul Nevin, who selected Dornelly for the Young Lions’ November camp which started with a clash against Germany at the SMH Group Stadium on Friday evening.
A proud moment for everyone at Posh, Nevin turned to the bench for defensive solidity on 83 minutes with Dornelly called upon to help see out the game and guide the Young Lions to victory over the Germans.
Dornelly spoke on the proud moment for him and his family: “I’m over the moon. I have been working really hard so to get the call-up and to come on [against Germany], it’s a really big moment for me and a real stepping-stone for my career."
England Head Coach Paul Nevin said: “He looked really comfortable when he came on, he’s a fantastic and classy character – and definitely one to keep an eye on for the future, so we’re really happy to have him with us”.
England have a trip to Pulway on Tuesday, where the Young Lions will clash with Poland to conclude the November set of fixtures.
Congratulations James!
