Duke of Edinburgh

Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, has been meeting with young people across Peterborough who have made a difference to their communities by taking part in a royal award programme and visited the Weston Homes Stadium earlier this month.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award was set up by the late Prince Philip in 1956, for young people "who might otherwise lack opportunities" and is aimed at those aged 14-24. Young people choose activities which help them improve skills, volunteering for a cause of their choice, and completing a demanding expedition.

The award is is widely recognised as the world’s leading youth achievement award.

The visit to Posh allowed the Duke to hear from pupils completing their DofE Award whilst working towards a BTEC and A Levels in sport in partnership with Nene Park Academy and the Club.

Prior to meeting with the youngsters the Duke met with a delegation from the Club and the EFL including Academy Director, Dan Robinson, and Peterborough United Foundation CEO, Gill Wignall.

Jackie Bull, Director of UK Operations at The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, said the visit shows the true power of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.  She added: “The young people the Duke has met in Peterborough today are a shining example of the life-changing impact the award can have on participants’ skills, resilience and self-belief – and the amazing difference they make in their own communities.”
