Emmanuel Fernandez stepped off the bench to score his second goal of the week to earn Posh a cup replay.
Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough United side are in the draw for the second round of the Emirates FA Cup after defender Emmanuel Fernandez stepped off the substitutes bench to score a last-gasp equaliser to earn Posh a 2-2 draw against Sky Bet League Two side Salford City at the Weston Homes Stadium.
Goalkeeper Alex Cairns made a sharp stop to deny Ryan De Havilland’s long-range effort, but it was the visitors who got the early breakthrough as Stephen MALLAN fired into the back of the net from long-range after a poor clearance from Nicholas Bilokapic.
Jadel Katongo was cautioned for a shirt tug moments later while on 12 minutes, Ephon Mason-Clark saw a low shot gathered by Cairns after cutting inside onto his right-foot. Poku saw a goal-bound effort from range headed wide of the target by a stretching Mariappa as Posh tried to get back on level terms.
Garbutt was cautioned for clattering Katongo on 33 minutes. On 39 minutes, De Havilland fired a free-kick over the crossbar from 28-yards after a foul on Collins. On the stroke of half-time, Poku saw a low drive kept out by the legs of Cairns before Poku saw a shot blocked.
Neither side made any changes at the break and it didn’t take long for Posh to level the scores, a slick move it was too, Mason-Clark into Randall and he picked out JONES who made no mistake for his third goal in three games.
Bilokapic made a smart stop moments later to parry a skidding free-kick from Mallan around the post as Salford won a set-piece following a foul by Crichlow. De Havilland saw a shot blocked after excellent work from Poku down the right hand side as the rain kept pouring down in PE2.
Poku continued to be the outlet down the right and he showed good skill to beat his man before driving a right-foot shot just wide of the post. The visitors got their noses in front on 68 minutes as a back pass from Sturge somehow rolled under the foot of Bilokapic and squeezed into the back of the net.
Darren Ferguson made a triple change as the game entered the final quarter with Jonson Clarke-Harris, Ronnie Edwards and Harrison Burrows all introduced into the fray. Clarke-Harris sent a header wide of the target and appealed in vain for a spot-kick as Posh pushed for a leveller as time began to run out.
Mothersille saw a shot smothered by the keeper after forcing his way into the box from a Clarke-Harris nod down before Posh did find an equaliser as substitute FERNANDEZ glanced home a header from an in-swinging Mason-Clark centre.
