An early goal from Brett started the tally as the Posh Women claimed a 5-2 victory over Sheffield FC Women at the Dinnington Resource Centre.
Peterborough United Women claimed three points on the road against Sheffield FC on Sunday evening in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands campaign.
Posh took an early lead after Poppie Brown's overhead ball found Jess Driscoll, she made an excellent run into the box and tapped the ball across to Emily BRETT who struck the ball past the host’s keeper.
Five minutes later, Posh doubled their lead as Meg Lawlor’s free-kick from near the corner hit the far post and deflected over the goal-line off one of Sheffield’s defenders.
The hosts tried to claim one back after Durkin received the ball on the edge of the box, but Corry calmly blocked her path.
Keir Perkins and Poppie Brown had both seen strong efforts blocked before Posh made it three on 24 minutes as Niamh CONNOR headed home from Lawlor’s corner.
Just three minutes later, PERKINS claimed the fourth after shooting from just outside the box after excellent work from Brown down the middle.
Posh made it five on 33 minutes after another great run from Brown allowed Evie DRISCOLL-KING to strike home from close range- despite a well-attempted block from Grimshaw.
Sheffield claimed back a goal two minutes later after their free-kick found DURKIN in the box, who managed to slot the ball past Corry before the end to a busy half.
After the break, the hosts fought back after Cook advanced down the right, but her efforts were denied by a good save from Neive Corry.
Dan Lawlor made a triple change on 56 minutes as Tara Kirk, Lucie Mugridge and Renai Bennett came on for Emily Brett, Niamh Connor and Poppie Brown. On 65 minutes, he made two more, as Frankie Pim and Zaiga Làcìte came on for Keir Perkins and Meg Lawlor.
Minutes later, the hosts scored a second, but their efforts were denied as the offside flag was raised. Pim saw some close chances in the closing stages of the game before Corry was carded and forced to the side-line for a sin bin. Driscoll-King stepped up to wear the keeper's shirt.
Sheffield seized the opportunity and after a debut save for Driscoll-King, HALLAS-POTTS scored a late goal for the hosts.
