Despite a competitive Sutton Coldfield Town side, Posh Women soon settled to secure a 5-2 victory at Abbey Lawn to extend their winning run.

The weather may have been miserable, but Jake Poole’s side ensured the game was a thriller, after a brace from Perkins and goals from Lawlor, Wilshaw and Pim claimed yet another three points for Peterborough United Women.

Posh were awarded the first clear chance of the game, but Brown’s free-kick on the edge of the box was fired over the bar. The visitors caused many problems for Posh throughout the first half, including early opportunities from Bevan and Da’Casto that were yet to test Corry.

Driscoll-King dragged a shot wide before The Royals broke the deadlock on 30 minutes, where Woolston found HORNSBY on the break and slotted the ball in the net past Corry. Posh were quick to react with a promising corner ball from Wilshaw, but their efforts were parried away by Jenkins.

On 39 minutes, no one could deter Connor’s confidence as she charged down the left and into the box, causing a goalmouth scramble. Bale’s strike was well-blocked by Jenkins and the deflection fell to PERKINS who volleyed home from close-range to equalise.

Posh saw a few more chances before the break but Perkins, Reynolds and Wilshaw all sent their shots wide.

Moments into the second-half, Reynolds saw another chance parried away by Jenkins before the visitors took a short-term lead on 47 minutes from WOOLSTON.

Posh settled into their rhythm and soon equalised once again, thanks to a phenomenal effort from LAWLOR who fired her shot over Jenkins and into the top corner on 56 minutes.

Minutes later, Bale looked to have netted another but a scramble in the box left the forward on the ground where she could only send a shot wide.

Corry darted out of goal to deny The Royals another chance, before WILSHAW outpaced her defender and slotted past the keeper on her left-foot to give Posh the lead on 68 minutes.

Minutes later, PERKINS claimed her brace with an impressive effort from the edge of the box that chipped the keeper and fired into the back of the net.

It was PIM who finished the tally just before the final whistle, where she headed home at the far post from Lawlor’s corner ball to cement the victory.

Posh Women are back on the road next Sunday where they will face Solihull Moors next Sunday afternoon at 2pm.
