At the 2008-2009 reunion, the football club inducted the Holy Trinity into the club’s Hall of Fame.
We are delighted to confirm that the Holy Trinity have been inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame with manager Darren Ferguson presenting Aaron Mclean, Craig Mackail-Smith and George Boyd with their special trophies at the 2008-2009 reunion that took place in the Holiday Inn, Peterborough on Friday evening.
Whilst Boyd and Mclean have been retired from the game for a while, the club wanted to wait until Mackail-Smith had officially hung up his boots before officially inducting the trio. Co-owner Darragh MacAnthony recorded a special video, which was played on the night, with the trio receiving a standing ovation when they were on stage.
MacAnthony said: “I just want to say a massive thank you to all three of the Holy Trinity. You played as massive part at the start of my journey as Peterborough United owner. I spent a lot of money on you guys, you made the club a lot of money, you brought a hell of a lot of success to the football club.
“Your legacy will be about goals, flair, assists, the promotions, collectively and individually, but what I am most proud of is the men you have grown up to be. I am proud to know you. I am delighted we have been able to do this as a football club and all three, Craig, Aaron and George are absolutely worthy of this honour and I congratulate you all on this recognition.”
Mackail-Smith scored 104 goals in 233 appearances for the club, Aaron Mclean netted 86 goals in 206 appearances, while Boyd scored 76 goals in 322 appearances. All three returned to the club in separate spells to their original time with the club and all three have been regular visitors back to the Weston Homes Stadium.
All three will be invited to a game where they will be invited onto the pitch to take the acclaim of the supporters for their achievements.
