Tara Kirk 50 goals

Striker Tara Kirk reflects on reaching 50 goals for the club.

The former Leicester City forward signed for Posh Women back in July 2022 and since then has never looked back. In 79 appearances in blue, Kirk netted her 50th goal for the club earlier this month.

Kirk netted four goals in the Northamptonshire County Cup Quarter-Final win with the final goal marking her 50th for the club.

The number 10 reflected on reaching the milestone: “I’m really happy with the number- it’s a good ratio to have as a striker.”

The forward netted her first goal for the club in her first start against Lincoln City in August 2022 at the Weston Homes Stadium, having made two appearances off the bench previously.

“I remember my first goal for the Posh against Lincoln at the stadium well. I remember Bobby [Copping] saying at the time, 'show everyone why I signed you.' My moment came; it was a great cross into the box and I scored my first goal on the volley.”

Kirk looked back at some of her other personal favourite moments throughout her Posh career so far:

“I scored another goal against Lincoln that I liked as well – I like to score good goals against them clearly! Scoring on my right foot is quite nice to do because I’m left footed so I like to test myself and know that I can score with both feet. My goal against Leafield earlier this season meant a lot to me personally as well.”

With 11 goals in 18 appearances for Posh so far this season and with up to 7 fixtures remaining, Kirk is on track to surpass last season's tally.

The forward discusses breaking her record: “It’s always good to set challenges and see where you can get to. I had a marker to get 10 before Christmas. I always want to improve; I want to score as much as I can even in the tougher fixtures.”

“What’s great with this team though is the goals aren’t relied on just by the strikers. We’ve got lots of scorers across the pitch. If I don’t reach the tally I have in mind at the end, it’s fine because ultimately we score goals as a team.”

Posh Women have enjoyed a strong 2024/25 campaign; experiencing several Tier 3 sides in cup matches, going the furthest they have done in the League Cup, challenging in the league and reaching the Northamptonshire County Cup Semi-Finals.

As the season reaches it's final stretch, Kirk reflects on the season so far: “We had a great start to the season. It’s definitely one to remember. The momentum was amazing, the quality around was great. We obviously had a bit of a decline which every team faces. We pulled ourselves away from consecutive losses but it’s been a great season so far. The team is full of great girls.”

Kirk also highlighted the joy at playing in front of a home crowd at the Abbey Lawn: “I love playing at home. I think our fanbase is amazing. It’s really nice to play in front of them, seeing the young girls come down to watch.”
