It took a cruel own goal to separate the two sides as Posh Under 18s were narrowly beaten by league leaders Burnley.
Football can be a cruel game sometimes and often it is all about the small margins and the Peterborough United Under 18s were on the wrong side of both on Tuesday afternoon as league leaders Burnley came out on top at the idverde Training Ground by a solitary first half own goal.
Posh battled hard against their opponents, who, like the first team, are very defensively solid, conceding just 16 goals in their 24 league matches to date.
The Clarets, who now have an 11 point advantage at the top of the division, had one or two opportunities of their own, but Posh will be frustrated they couldn't take one or two opportunities of their own in the second half from dead-ball situations.
A free-kick from Joe Davies was knocked back across goal by Lucca Mendonca but Noah Freeman couldn't react to convert while Patryk Sykut and Rylie Fitzpatrick also went close.
Posh fielded two under 15s from the substitutes bench as they continue to juggle minutes with players stepping into the Under 21s while prolific striker Bolu Shofowoke was unavailable as he prepares for his GCSE's.
Professional Development Phase (U18s) Lead Coach Jimmy Unwin said: "I am really pleased with the lads, they went toe to toe with the team at the top and emptied the tank out there.
"Burnley don't concede many goals, very much like their first team, they are hard to break down, but we had one or two moments. We looked a team out there, we were just lacking in the final third, which has been something that has affected us a few times this season."
Posh: Westcott, Freeman, Joseph, Holley, Mendonca, Gilbert, Davies, Fox, Fitzpatrick, Beech, Sykut. Subs: Miltyalwa, Dagne, McWilliams-Marcano, Aikins.
