Posh U18s secure a point against The Sky Blues.
Reuben Marshall’s spectacular goal in the closing stages of the game rescued a point for Peterborough United U18s after a 3-3 draw against Coventry City U18s on Saturday morning in the Under-18 Professional Development League.
Posh opened the scoring on eight minutes as Bayley McCann’s corner caused havoc inside the box and the Trialist was at the back-post to force the ball home. The Sky Blues brought the scores level just 10 minutes later as their corner also caused plenty of problems for Posh and their forward fired home from close-range.
The under 18s retook the lead just after the half an hour mark and it was a lovely move by Posh, starting from Oliver Rose as his long-ball found Reuben Marshall on the right, he played the ball into Tyler Winters and his low cross was tapped home by the Trialist for his second.
The Sky Blues grabbed the equaliser on 37 minutes as Oliver Rose was penalised for a foul inside the box and the hosts converted from the spot. The hosts turned the game around just before the break as their forward netted from close-range despite the best efforts from Jake West.
Posh managed to rescue a point on 86 minutes and it was a spectacular goal from Marshall, as his touch from the Trialist cross saw the ball in the air and he produced an overhead kick from inside the box.
Speaking after the game, Jamal Campbell-Ryce said: “Where I have been so positive in recent weeks, I was slightly disappointed with the players. I told the players at the break that they outworked us and were stronger. We struggled in and out of possession in the first half, which was disappointing, and Coventry could have been out of sight.
“In the second half, we made a couple of changes, the team reacted and we could have scored quite a few in the final 20 minutes. So, I’m happy that the players reacted and did what I asked of them, but the first 45 minutes were not good enough.”
Posh XI: West, Dornelly, McCann, Marcon, Arthur, Toynton, Challinor, Rose, Marshall, Winters, Trialist.
