Under 21s

Posh Under 21s are in action for the final time this year on Thursday evening as they visit AFC Rushden & Diamonds in the Final of the Maunsell Cup (7.45pm).

The Peterborough United Under 21s will look to finish 2024 on a high as the travel just shy of an hour up the road to face Northern Premier League Division One Midlands side AFC Rushden & Diamonds in the Maunsell Cup Final.

Posh were 2-0 winners last time out at Coventry City thanks to goals from Donay O'Brien-Brady and substitute Patryk Sykut to carry the momentum through to Thursday’s cup final.

AFC Rushden & Diamonds will be looking to bounce back after a 1-0 defeat at home to Darlaston Town last weekend where a late Aaron Bishop goal condemned them to a third defeat in their last five matches.

The Diamonds sit a comfortable 12th in the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands. Last season they finished in 19th place but managed to get a reprieve from relegation as Loughborough Dynamo resigned from the league.

TEAM NEWS
The squad for Thursday night’s game will be a group containing a mix of Under 21s and Under 18s players. The squad will feature a number of players who have played senior football out on loan and Lead Professional Development Phase Lead Coach (U21s) Ryan Semple believes that will help those younger players that will be involved.

FROM THE MANAGER
Speaking ahead of the game Semple said: “Thursday will be a tough test for us, against a team we know well. As a senior outfit they will provide a lot of physicality and it’s our job to make sure we battle and do the basics right. It is a game that we are looking forward too."

LIVE UPDATES
Updates of the game will be available on The Posh Academy X account, with post-match reaction also on the website.

VENUE
The fixture will take place at Hayden Road with the game open to the public.
