Posh Women are back in Northants FA County Cup action as they travel to the Dog and Duck Stadium to face AFC Rushden & Diamonds Girls on Sunday.
Peterborough United Women will travel to the Dog and Duck Stadium on Sunday afternoon (3pm) as they face AFC Rushden & Diamonds Girls in the quarter-final of the Northamptonshire FA County Cup.
After a dominant performance in an 8-0 victory over Kettering Town Women in the last round, Dan Lawlor’s side will be looking to book their place in the semi-final of the competition and reach the final for a third consecutive season.
AFC Rushden & Diamonds came from 2-1 down at half-time to achieve a 6-2 victory over Crick Athletic Ladies in the last round of the competition, so will no doubt prove to test the Posh defence with their goal-scoring ability.
Team News
Posh continue to be without midfielder Beatriz Borque and defender Elloise Copson for this weekend’s fixture, as well as forward Zaiga Lacite, who is still recovering from injury.
However, in positive news for Lawlor’s side, midfielder Stacey McConville will be involved in the matchday squad for the first-time since August following a lengthy spell on the sidelines. A few more Development Squad players, who aren’t cup-tied, could also be in contention to feature in the squad selection for Posh on Sunday.
From The First Team Coach
“We know we’re probably favourites going into the game, but we don’t want to look at it like that. We want to go and put in another positive performance. For us, if we can go and be positive, take last weekend’s performance and how many chances we produced into the next game, we have every chance of going through to the next round.
“We have our eye on this after exiting from the FA Cup. We want some silverware this season, and this is definitely the opportunity to go and get it.
“It’s massive for us to have a quality, experienced player like Stacey returning to the squad. It will give everyone a boost, especially walking into the changing room and seeing the face of someone you have relied on for so many years, so it’s a real positive for us.”
