Barnsley U18s v Posh U18s

Peterborough United Under 18s are in action on Saturday afternoon (12pm) when they face Barnsley in the Professional Development League.

Posh Under 18s will look to bounce back from the defeat to Coventry City last time out as they travel north to Yorkshire on Saturday.

The Sky Blues hit the front in the third minute when Josh Gordon tapped home at the back post and - despite Posh’s best efforts for a leveller - held on to claim all three points in PE2.

The result handed Posh a first defeat of October after Jimmy Unwin’s side opened the month with the 3-2 success over Luton Town in the PDL Cup.

Barnsley, meanwhile, are winless in four of their previous PDL encounters, and most recently shared the points with Wigan Athletic after Cole Simms’ strike restored a point for the Latics.

TEAM NEWS

Posh Under 18s will be without the service of Max Beech on Saturday nears a return to full-fitness on his knee.

Rylie Fitzpatrick is back in contention after completing concussion protocol, meanwhile Milan Kovaci remains sidelined as he continues his rehabilitation.

A few faces are at doubt due to illness, but the conditions will be assessed nearer to Saturday.

THE OPPOSITION

Barnsley sit tenth after a difficult start to the new term. The Tykes have recorded victories over Bournemouth and Brentford and have drawn on three separate occasions; Ipswich Town, Sheffield Wednesday and Wigan Athletic.

It has been an indifferent start to the PDL Cup campaign however, Sam Collins’ side have run out winners in each of their opening two Group Stage fixtures and sit top of their respective group.

FROM THE MANAGER

“There were large areas that we were really pleased with – the boys have reacted well, we’ve had Under 21s games as well so they’ve had that exposure. There were some good performances against Coventry and on another day, we probably would’ve scored a few goals which is the theme of this season.

“Barnsley are a good academy, and have some good players so it will be a difficult task. They’re a team which likes to get after the ball so it will be a tough test. You can’t read too much into league positions – they do the same as us so their best Under 18s will be with the Under 21s so it’s the case of doing the best we can on the day and hopefully getting some good performances,” Unwin said.
