Peterborough United Women Under 23s travel to Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre as they take on Barnsley Women Development on Sunday afternoon (1.30pm) in the FA Women’s National League Reserves Midlands Division.
In their last match, a depleted Posh squad suffered a 3-1 away defeat to Derby County Women Development despite a hard-fought performance. Taya Smith netted the consolation goal for Posh.
Barnsley sit bottom of the table on four points and most recently lost 5-2 away at Notts County Women Development.
When the two sides met earlier this season, Posh secured an emphatic 12-0 victory, with Frankie Pim scoring four goals, Emily Meli and Ellie Curson both netting a brace and Georgie Oliver, Jess Abrantes, Rebecca Mears and Alicia Podd also finding the back of the net.
Team News
Under 23s manager Michael Allsebrook confirmed that he will be without a number of players this weekend, giving Eve Cragg an opportunity to feature, after impressing for the Under 16s. She will become the fourth player to make the step-up through the pathway this season.
Barnsley’s top goal-scorer this season is Olivia Richardson who has scored four times so far this campaign.
From The Gaffer
Allsebrook said: “After a blank week last Sunday it’s nice to be back in league action. Our league campaign has four games to go now and whilst looking at the calendar, it’s strange saying that in February the season has certainly felt like a roller-coaster. We have the final two away games back-to-back and although they are both long trips, we are very much prepared and ready to attack both games head on.
“Barnsley are a side that aren’t to be underestimated. As I have said many times in the last 18 months, no game at this level is straightforward and particularly when travelling away from home. The performance against Derby last time out was excellent and we need to show that we can take that bravery and tactical discipline into this week. Our away performances have consistently grown stronger each week and our aim is very much to end the final 2 away games with 6 points and that begins on Sunday.”
