Women preview

Posh Women travel to Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park on Sunday afternoon (2pm) as they face Barnsley Women in their latest FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands fixture.

Jake Poole’s side will be looking to continue their unbeaten form into September having won their opening two league games 4-1 and 8-0 before defeating Lincoln United 3-0 at the Abbey Lawn midweek in the FAWNL League Cup.

Opponents, The Reds, are in search of their first win of the season having drawn their opening league game 1-1 against Boldmere St Michael’s before losing 3-1 against Leafield Athletic.

They made the switch to Division One Midlands ahead of the 2024/25 campaign having previously competed in the Northern Section. They finished fourth last season; on 43 points, ten points off top spot.

Team News

Speaking to Posh+ ahead of the game, Jake Poole confirmed he would have a near full strength squad for Sunday’s trip. Poppie Brown is back after suspension and could make her first appearance of the season against The Reds.

Ellie York and Jess Stanford are the only absentees as they recover from ACL injuries.

From The Gaffer

“It’s going to be a tough game; the Northern division they were in is a challenging league. We know Barnsley are a good team with some talented players. They’ll cause us problems that we probably haven’t faced yet this season.”

One To Watch

Former Posh midfielder Rosie Axten has started her first season at Barnsley Women in fine form having netted twice in their opening three games of the season.

Last Time Out

The two teams met in the FAWNL League Cup Determining Round last season at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park with the Posh Women securing a 3-2 victory courtesy of two stoppage time strikes from Rosie Axten.
