Posh Women prepare to face The U’s on Thursday evening.

Peterborough United Women are back on the road as they travel to local rivals Cambridge United Women on Thursday (7.45pm) for their latest friendly of their pre-season schedule.

Posh most recently drew 1-1 with Tier 3 side Hashtag United Women after a wonderful strike from Jess Abrantes concluded a very entertaining Sunday at Abbey Lawn.

Opponents Cambridge compete in the FA Women’s National League Division One South East and finished seventh last season. The U’s were last in action last Sunday where they were defeated 3-1 by AFC Wimbledon Women.

Team News

Manager Jake Poole has recently added Stoke City winger Lauren Wilshaw, who was on loan at Notts County Women last season, to an already impressive summer signing list. Niamh Connor will not be involved in the fixture due to an injury sustained during Posh’s friendly against Hashtag United.

From the Coach

Assistant Manager Georgia Clarke said: ‘We’re hoping to have a bit more of the ball. Naturally against Derby, Wolves and Hashtag we didn’t have the ball as much as we wanted but we expected that, so we’ve seen a lot of out-of-possession work from the girls and counter-attacking when we do get the ball. Now our focus shifts a little more towards the in-possession principals that we’re going through- can we try and keep more of the ball and look after it, then pick our moments.”

Ones to watch

Isabella Simmons is the one to watch as the club’s top goal scorer last season, netting 14 goals during the 2023/24 campaign. Alysha Stojko-Down and Ruth Fox also hit double figures with 13 and 11 goals respectively.

Last time out

Posh faced the U’s last pre-season and secured a comfortable 4-0 victory over Cambridge United at the Abbey Lawn, with Evie Driscoll-King grabbing a hat-trick.

Kit colours

Posh Women will be wearing the new 2024/25 home kit for the first time.
