Charlton Athletic v Posh

A look ahead to the Sky Bet League One clash at The Valley on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).

Peterborough United return to Sky Bet League One action on Tuesday evening with a trip to the capital to face Charlton Athletic at the Valley (7.45pm).

Darren Ferguson's men know they need to resolve their travel sickness with no win on the road in the league since the success at Exeter City.

Charlton have won their last three in all competitions and were 2-0 winners at the weekend thanks to goals from Matt Godden and Luke Berry.

TEAM NEWS

Posh are without the services of Rio Adebisi, Jadel Katongo and Kwame Poku, but Sam Hughes, Carl Johnston and Tayo Edun return to the squad after missing the cup win over Cheltenham Town due to ineligibility.

Tennai Watson remains sidelined for the Addicks, but they have a fully fit squad to choose from otherwise with plenty of options in the attacking areas of the pitch.

MANAGER QUOTES

"Charlton are in good form, particularly at home. We had them watched at the weekend. They are an aggressive side, they like to get the ball forward and we are going to have to do the basics right. In fact, doing the basics right, is the platform away from home and we need to do it right. We have to turn the away form around, we have four successive games on the road including the cup semi-final," Darren Ferguson said.

ONE TO WATCH

Matt Godden

Experienced striker Matty Godden (pictured below) arrived at Charlton in July 2024, signing a two-year deal, with a club option of a further year.

The Canterbury-born forward began his career with Scunthorpe United, where he progressed through the youth ranks to make his professional debut in September 2010 in an EFL Cup tie against Manchester United.

While with Scunthorpe, he gained first-team experience during a series of loan spells at Brigg Town, Ilkeston Town, Gainsborough Trinity, Ebbsfleet United, Dartford and Tamworth.

Godden rejoined Ebbsfleet on a permanent basis in May 2014 and immediately impressed. The prolific frontman scored 43 goals in 82 appearances for the Fleet and was named in the 2015/16 National League South Team of the Year.

He signed for Stevenage in the summer of 2016 and continued his scoring form, scoring 21 goals in his debut season at the Lamex Stadium to win the club’s 2016/17 Player of the Year award.

Godden netted another 14 times during the following campaign before joining Sky Bet League One outfit Peterborough United.

After bagging 18 goals in his debut season with Posh, he made the move to Coventry where he tasted promotion to the Championship in his inaugural campaign and has since remained a key part of the Sky Blues’ squad.

Godden lifted the Sky Bet League One title with Coventry during his last season at this level and finished as the Sky Blues’ top scorer, which earned him a place in the 2019/20 PFA League One Team of the Year.

Bringing a wealth of experience with 460 career appearances, Godden joins the Addicks following a successful five-year spell at the Coventry Building Society Arena, where he scored 50 goals in 110 starts.
