Posh Women set to conclude 2022/23 campaign with trip to Doncaster.
Peterborough United Women face Doncaster Rovers Belles at the Iqbal Poultry Stadium on Sunday afternoon (2pm) in their final game of the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands campaign.
Dan Lawlor’s side will look to end their season on a high after a 2-0 defeat to Leek Town Ladies in their previous game, with a victory confirming a top-four finish in the table this season.
The Belles suffered a 2-0 loss to Northampton Town Women last time out, but will finish second in the FA Women’s National League for a second consecutive season. The two sides met in the reverse fixture back in October, with Nadia Khan’s strike separating the two teams.
Team News
Posh remain without Eden Bailey, Zaiga Lacite, Beatriz Borque and Jess Driscoll for the trip to Doncaster. Goalkeeper Neive Corry will also miss after picking up a knock against Stourbridge Women, with Charlotte Hastings set to retain the number one jersey after a confident debut against Leek Town Ladies last week.
Lawlor confirmed that a similar squad that faced Leek Town Ladies will travel to Iqbal Poultry Stadium, with the possibility of Elloise Copson returning to the squad.
Belles’ Jessica Andrew is the club’s leading goalscorer this season, with 13 goals in 25 appearances, while Sophie Brown also netted a hat-trick in their 3-0 victory over Leafield Athletic last month.
From The Gaffer
“I want to see a massive reaction. They all know we could have been better, and although, it wasn’t a terrible performance, it just wasn’t a great one. We want to finish as high as we can. If it wasn’t for a disappointing end to the season, we could have finished even higher. But that’s gone, we have one more game to focus on and I want nothing less than 3 points. It’s the last game and then we are all off.
“We will be spending time away from each other so there would be nothing better than for them, to finish the season with a win against second in the league. I expect a team who are tough to beat. They work hard and are good at what they do. We will have to be at 100% to be in a position to beat them.”
