A look ahead to Saturday’s trip to Exeter City in Sky Bet League One action (3pm).
Peterborough United are back in action on Saturday with a trip to St. James Park to face Exeter City (3pm) with both teams looking to get their second win of the Sky Bet League One campaign.
Darren Ferguson’s men recorded a comfortable 4-1 away win at Shrewsbury Town last time out thanks to goals from Kwame Poku (2) and Joel Randall (2) while the Grecians were beaten at Northampton Town after a superb opening day success over promotion-favourites Rotherham United.
TEAM NEWS
Posh are without defender Rio Adebisi and midfielder Ryan De Havilland, while loanee Mahamadou Susoho has returned to Manchester City following an injury sustained in the warm-up against Oxford United.
There is better news though with midfielder and skipper Hector Kyprianou returning to the squad after missing the opening three games of the campaign. Defender George Nevett is also available again after a spell on the side-lines with a wrist injury sustained during pre-season.
Exeter will remain without Sonny Cox in the engine room, Jay Bird and Yanic Wildschut in attack, as well as left-sided Demetri Mitchell, who have all missed the start of the new season.
Mitchell's understudy Vincent Harper was also absent last weekend, meaning youngster Millenic Alli was given a start in an otherwise unchanged side, which could line up again here.
ONE TO WATCH
Josh Magennis
Northern Ireland international striker Josh Magennis joined the Grecians on June 27, following his release from Wigan Athletic at the end of last season. The 33-year-old 6ft 2 forward, who has made 79 appearances for his country, arrives in Devon on a one-year contract to continue his career that has seen him make almost 600 appearances in the Championship, League One, League Two and the Scottish Premiership.
Magennis began his career as a youngster in Northern Ireland as a goalkeeper before switching to the attack in 2008 ahead of turning professional.
He joined the academy at Cardiff City – signing his first pro deal in 2009, playing ten times before a loan move to Grimsby Town. He joined Aberdeen in 2010 and stayed four years in the north of Scotland, scoring ten. He also spent time in Scotland with St Mirren and Kilmarnock.
The Bangor-born striker joined Charlton Athletic in 2016 and scored 20 times in 81 appearances for the Addicks in League One. A year with Bolton was followed by Hull City, where Josh scored 26 times in 88 across the second and third tier, gaining promotion with the Tigers in 2020-21, bagging 19 goals that season.
MANAGER QUOTES
"Exeter always tend to start seasons quite well and although they were beaten last time out, it was an unfortunate defeat as they played well on the day. They beat Rotherham on the opening day and are tough to beat in front of their own supporters. They have brought in experience in attack and we will have to go there and put a performance similar to the one at Shrewsbury to get the right result,” Darren Ferguson said.
