Posh Women face Leafield Athletic in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands.
Peterborough United Women are set to travel to Castle Vale Stadium on Sunday afternoon (3pm) as they play Leafield Athletic Ladies in their latest FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands fixture.
The meeting was originally scheduled in December, but it was postponed due to cold weather and pitch conditions.
Dan Lawlor’s side were beaten by Sporting Khalsa Women in their latest fixture after a 5-0 defeat at Abbey Lawn. They are, however, currently in the top four of the table having won eight of their games so far this season.
Opponents Leafield Athletic are currently sat twelfth in the relegation zone having won one and drawn three of their games during the first half of the season. They drew 1-1 to Leek Town last Sunday on the road.
Team News
Speaking to Posh+ ahead of the game, Lawlor confirmed that Keir Perkins and Ellie York will remain sidelined whilst recovering from their recent injuries. Unfortunately, Zaiga Lacite will also be sidelined after having sustained an injury during the match last Sunday.
U23s player, Rebecca Mears, will be in contention for Sunday’s squad after making her debut for the first team against Sporting Khalsa at the weekend.
The Lynxs welcomed James Tolley as their new Head Coach, at the beginning of January, for the second half of the 2024 season.
From The Gaffer
“I just want to go to Leafield and have a really positive performance- we need a positive result. I’ve been looking at our press, our shape and if we can do the basics better and I’m feeling excited for Sunday. We’re going to be playing on a decent 4G surface which suits us too.
“Leafield don’t want to be where they are, no one does, they will try not to give us anything especially when you’re down at the bottom of the table fighting for your life. We’ve got to go there and be positive, aggressive and get after them from the start- that’s how I always want to play.
“It’s a very competitive league this year, definitely the toughest it’s ever been. We’ve got to be a bit more consistent with our performances and we’ve got to keep believing and pushing ourselves.”
One To Watch
Forward Sarah Hazell is Leafield’s top scorer this season having netted five times in 18 games so far this season.
Last Time Out
Posh secured four points against Leafield Athletic during the 2022/23 campaign; having initially recorded a stalemate away before securing a 3-0 win at the Abbey Lawn. Tara Kirk netted a brace that afternoon, with Jess Driscoll also on the scoresheet.
